WEBELOS II CROSSOVER - March TBA 2012
Did you know the more you refine a piece of steel, the more valuable it becomes? Scrap steel is worth very little. When you turn steel into a box of nails, they begin to have some value. If you take that same steel and refine it into surgical steel it really becomes a valuable metal. It is much the same with scouting.
As you recall, Akela was the chief of the Webelos tribe. He was strong, courageous and a compassionate man. He was honest and put his faith in God our Creator.
His father was the son of the great yellow sun in the sky and was called the "Arrow Of Light". He learned wondrous things from his mother who was called "Kind Eyes".
He learned as a Bobcat to follow the Laws of the Pack and the importance of Akela. He then learned as a Wolf the language of the ground; the tracks and the ways to food. As a Bear, he learned the names of tress and calls of birds. Then new skills and passed tests of accomplishment as a Webelos. At this ceremony, we will see if he has passed the highest test of all and proven himself qualified to wear his father's name "Arrow of Light". The four winds will blow and Akela will listen to see if the braves have done well, have followed the trail and are ready to follow the trail that leads to Boy Scouting. The trail that ends with the highest award in scouting a brave can earn; that of Eagle.
This ceremony will be a joyous time and a sad time. We will be happy these braves are advancing but sad they are leaving. Many of us have watched them grow from Tigers to becoming Boy Scouts.
The Arrow of Light Ceremony will be the last time these boys are called Webelos. They have come to the end of Cub Scouting. They have earned the highest award a Cub Scout can earn. As Webelos II, these Cub Scouts have gone through the initial refining process. As they crossover into Boy Scouting lets encourage them to continue to be refined.
The Arrow of Light Ceremony is an event for the entire pack. All scouts, parents and siblings should take part in.
It is the Eagle Scout Award for Cub Scouts.
